STEMCELL Technologies supplies this enzymatic dissociation system as part of the NeuroCult product family, providing an optimized papain-based cocktail for generating viable single-cell suspensions from adult and embryonic rodent neural tissue. The chemistry supports neural stem cell (NSC) isolation workflows, with downstream applications including in vitro expansion of neurosphere cultures, differentiation assays, and characterization of progenitor populations. It pairs with NeuroCult NSC Basal Medium and Proliferation Supplement to streamline the transition from dissociated tissue to proliferating culture.

Each kit contains enzyme solution, DNase I, and inhibitor solution sufficient to process multiple tissue samples, with components stored at -20°C to preserve enzymatic activity. Researchers typically apply the dissociation protocol to freshly dissected periventricular regions, subgranular zone tissue, or whole-brain preparations from mouse and rat donors. The dissociation chemistry maximizes cell viability while preserving surface epitopes required for flow cytometry analysis and subsequent passaging.

Common downstream uses include neurosphere-forming assays in serum-free conditions, gene expression profiling of freshly isolated progenitors, and cryopreservation of dissociated populations for banking. The kit is supplied in single-use aliquot vials to reduce freeze-thaw cycles on the working enzyme stock, and the protocol typically completes in approximately 90 minutes from tissue harvest to filtered single-cell suspension ready for plating.
