Direct conversion of somatic cells to erythroid lineage progenitors is enabled by this modified mRNA-based reprogramming kit from STEMCELL Technologies. Designed to bypass the pluripotent stage, the system supports research into erythropoiesis, hemoglobin switching, and red blood cell production without genomic integration. Fibroblasts or peripheral blood mononuclear cells can be reprogrammed into erythroid progenitors, making the platform relevant for sickle cell disease and beta-thalassemia studies, as well as investigations into transfusion biology and rare hematological disorders. The kit includes reprogramming factors and supportive culture media reagents needed for in vitro differentiation workflows. Cells progress through erythroid commitment over a 14 to 21 day protocol with cytokine-driven maturation, including stages resembling proerythroblast and basophilic erythroblast morphology. Intended for research use only, the components are shipped on dry ice and stored at -20 °C to maintain activity. Each unit supports multiple transfections depending on the starting cell source and culture scale, and the protocol has been validated with both adult dermal fibroblasts and cord blood-derived mononuclear cells.
