BrainPhys hPSC Neuron Kit

A complete serum-free system from STEMCELL Technologies for differentiating human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC) cultures into mature, electrophysiologically active neurons, this kit is built around the BrainPhys Neuronal Medium formulation. All components required to support hPSC-derived neural progenitors through neuronal differentiation, sustained viability, synapse formation, and spontaneous network activity over multi-week culture periods are included.

The BrainPhys medium was engineered to approximate physiological cerebrospinal fluid ionic composition, allowing neurons to develop mature firing patterns and functional synaptic connections rather than reverting to the immature or stressed state seen in traditional media. Validated applications include long-term microelectrode array (MEA) recordings, fluorescence imaging of synaptic markers, neurotoxicity screening, and disease modeling with patient-derived iPSC lines.

The kit supplies sufficient medium and supplements for culturing neurons in 6-well plates or 24-well plate formats, with media changes supporting 4 to 8 weeks of continuous maturation. Frozen and refrigerated components should be stored per the product insert, and reconstituted supplements aliquoted to minimize freeze-thaw cycles.
