Description

This rat monoclonal IgG2a, kappa antibody from STEMCELL Technologies recognizes mouse CD138 (Syndecan-1), a ~60-100 kDa type 1 transmembrane glycoprotein, and is conjugated to APC. Clone 281-2 binds an extracellular epitope on the core protein of CD138.

CD138 is expressed on pre-B cells, immature B cells, and normal and malignant plasma cells, but not on mature circulating B cells. It is also found on non-hematopoietic cells including embryonic mesenchymal, endothelial, epithelial, and neural cells. The molecule is thought to act primarily as a receptor that modulates cell proliferation, migration, and cell-matrix associations by linking the extracellular matrix to the cytoskeleton, with its heparin sulfate and chondroitin sulfate moieties associating with collagens, fibronectin, tenascin, thrombospondin, and certain cytokines. The antibody was raised against the mouse NMuMG mammary gland epithelial cell line.

The reagent has been verified for flow cytometry and is suitable for purity assessments of cells isolated with EasySep kits, including mouse pan-B cell and mouse CD19 positive selection workflows. The suggested use for flow cytometry is ≤ 0.5 µg per 1 x 10^6 cells in 100 µL, with titration recommended for each application. It is supplied at 0.2 mg/mL in phosphate-buffered solution (pH 7.2) containing 0.09% sodium azide, purified by affinity chromatography, and should be stored at 2-8 °C without freezing, protected from prolonged light exposure.
