Description

From STEMCELL Technologies, the Anti-Human CD71 (Transferrin Receptor) Antibody, Clone OKT9 is a monoclonal antibody specific for human CD71, conjugated with the AZ dye for fluorescence detection and optimized for flow cytometry and transferrin receptor analysis. The clone is verified for flow cytometry applications and is intended for research use only.

CD71 is an approximately 180–190 kDa disulfide-bonded homodimer and a type 2 transmembrane glycoprotein expressed at high levels on actively proliferating cells, as well as on reticulocytes, monocytes, macrophages, and marrow stromal cells. Surface levels are low on resting leukocytes but are upregulated on lymphocytes, monocytes, and macrophages following antigen or mitogen stimulation, and expression is lost as reticulocytes differentiate into mature erythrocytes. CD71 mediates the uptake of transferrin–iron complexes through receptor-mediated endocytosis and recycling of the apotransferrin–receptor complex to the cell surface. It has been employed as a marker for evaluating erythroid precursors and for assessing disorders such as erythroid leukemia and myelodysplastic syndrome, and has also served as a target for drug delivery.

The OKT9 antibody is of mouse IgG1, kappa isotype and binds an epitope that reportedly overlaps with that of antibody clone CY1G4 but is distinct from the ligand binding site for transferrin. Per the manufacturer's storage and handling guidance, the product should be stored at 2–8 °C and protected from light.
