Anti-Hu CD68, Y1/82A, PE, 25tests

This PE-conjugated antibody from STEMCELL Technologies is directed against human CD68, an ~110 kDa type 1 transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the sialomucin, LAMP and scavenger receptor families. Designated clone Y1/82A, the reagent recognises an epitope that is distinct from those bound by clones Y2/131, EBM11, Ki-M6 and KP1, and is reported to be more specific for monocytes and macrophages than KP1. The antigen is heavily glycosylated, with an extracellular domain containing a proline-rich spacer region separating mucin and LAMP domains, and has been shown to bind low-density lipoprotein together with certain lectins and selectins.

CD68 is highly expressed in lysosomes, endosomes and cytoplasmic granules, and is more weakly present on the surface of macrophages, monocytes, neutrophils, basophils, dendritic cells and NK cells. It has also been detected in the cytoplasm of γ/δ T cells, LAK cells, fibroblasts and endothelial cells, and in subsets of B cells and hematopoietic progenitors, as well as in non-hematopoietic tissues such as liver and kidney. The antibody is of the IgG2b, kappa isotype and is supplied as a clear liquid laboratory reagent. Applications listed for the clone include Western blot.
