Anti-Hu CD56, HCD56, AD, 25tests

Produced by STEMCELL Technologies, this mouse monoclonal IgG1, kappa antibody targets human CD56 (NCAM) and is supplied conjugated to Alexa Fluor® 488. CD56 (NCAM) is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily containing 5 Ig-like domains and two fibronectin type-3 domains in its extracellular portion, and the ~140 kDa isoform is described by the manufacturer as the prototypic cell surface marker on human NK cells, with approximately 90% of NK cells expressing CD56 at low density and ~10% expressing it at relatively high levels.

CD56 is also expressed by a subset of NKT cells in peripheral blood, neurons, muscle cells, some stem cells and in vitro-cultured T cell clones, and is found on several tumor types including myeloma, neuroblastoma and small cell lung carcinoma cells. Clone HCD56 has been verified for flow cytometry, including for purity assessments of cells isolated with EasySep™ kits such as the EasySep™ HLA Buffy Coat CD56 Positive Selection Kit and the EasySep™ Human CD56 Positive Selection Kit, although the manufacturer states partial blocking may be observed.

The product is formulated in a phosphate-buffered solution at pH 7.2 containing 0.09% sodium azide and 0.2% (w/v) bovine serum albumin, and was purified by affinity chromatography. The solution is free of unconjugated Alexa Fluor® 488. According to the safety data sheet, it is not classified as a hazardous substance and presents as a clear liquid. The manufacturer states the product is stable at 2 - 8°C when stored undiluted, and advises against freezing or prolonged exposure to light.
