Description

This FITC-conjugated monoclonal antibody from STEMCELL Technologies is a mouse IgG1, kappa reagent (clone MI15) directed against CD138 (Syndecan-1), an ~85–95 kDa type 1 transmembrane glycoprotein. It binds an extracellular epitope located within the Gly98–Glu118 sequence of CD138, and has been shown to block binding of clone BLB4 while recognizing a different epitope from clone DLL101.

The reagent reacts with human, rhesus, and cynomolgus CD138, expressed on pre-B cells, immature B cells, and normal and malignant plasma cells, as well as on non-hematopoietic cells including embryonic mesenchymal, endothelial, epithelial, and neural cells. Heparan sulfate and chondroitin sulfate moieties on CD138 associate with collagens, fibronectin, tenascin, thrombospondin, and certain cytokines, and CD138 is used as a diagnostic marker for several tumor types. The antibody has been verified for flow cytometry (FC) applications and is reported for immunohistochemistry (IHC).

Provided as a phosphate-buffered solution at pH 7.2 containing 0.09% sodium azide and 0.2% (w/v) bovine serum albumin, it has been purified by affinity chromatography and is free of unconjugated FITC and unconjugated antibody. For flow cytometry, the suggested use is 5 μL per 1 × 10^6 cells in 100 μL, or per 100 μL of whole blood. The product is stable at 2–8°C when stored undiluted; do not freeze and protect from prolonged light exposure.
