Description

A monoclonal antibody (clone 43A3) from STEMCELL Technologies targets human CD105 (endoglin), an approximately 180 kDa disulfide-bonded homodimeric cell surface glycoprotein composed of approximately 90 kDa type I transmembrane subunits. CD105 functions as a component of the TGF-β receptor complex and is expressed by vascular endothelial smooth muscle cells, syncytiotrophoblasts of the placenta, activated macrophages, and stromal fibroblasts, with up-regulated expression observed on the endothelium during angiogenesis.

The antibody is verified for flow cytometry, and the 43A3 clone has been verified for labeling human mesenchymal cells cultured in MesenCult media. CD105 binds TGF-β1 and TGF-β3 with high affinity but not TGF-β2; other reported ligands include Activin A, BMP-2, and BMP-7. The protein plays roles in angiogenesis, cardiovascular development, and vascular remodeling, and certain mutations in CD105 are associated with the autosomal dominant disorder hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia. The antibody is of mouse origin with an IgG1, kappa isotype.
