Description

A mouse monoclonal IgG2a antibody from STEMCELL Technologies targets beta-tubulin III, a structural protein constituent of tubulin and a major component of the microtubule cytoskeleton. The beta III isoform, also known as neuron-specific class III beta-tubulin, is expressed primarily in neurons and is widely used as a marker to distinguish neurons from other cell types. The protein contributes to microtubule formation in neuronal cell bodies and axons, with functional roles involving GTP binding, axonal transport, neuronal cell proliferation, and differentiation. It is also highly expressed in several types of cancer and serves as a predictive and prognostic marker for various tumors, having been found in neoplastic but not in normal glial cells.

The clone, designated 2G10-TB3, is expected to recognize all mammalian homologs of beta-tubulin III, with the epitope mapped to the extreme C-terminal amino acids EAQGPK. The antibody is unconjugated and was raised against a synthetic peptide corresponding to amino acids 436–450 of beta-tubulin III conjugated to keyhole limpet hemocyanin. It shows reactivity with human, mouse, rat, and other mammalian species. Verified applications include immunocytochemistry (ICC), immunofluorescence microscopy (IF), and Western blotting (WB), with reported use in flow cytometry (FC), immunohistochemistry (IHC), and immunoprecipitation (IP). For immunocytochemistry, a suggested working concentration of ≤ 5 µg/mL is recommended, with titration advised for optimal performance in each application.

The product is supplied as an aqueous buffer containing 0.09% sodium azide and may also contain carrier protein or stabilizer; the antibody has been purified by column chromatography. It is stable at 2–8 °C when stored undiluted and should not be frozen. According to the manufacturer's safety documentation, the mixture is a clear liquid and is not classified as hazardous under the 2012 OSHA Hazard Communication Standard or the Globally Harmonized System (GHS).
