T-2 toxin is a potent type-A trichothecene mycotoxin produced by Fusarium species such as F. sporotrichioides, F. poae, and F. langsethiae, which commonly colonise cereal grains during cultivation and storage. It is among the most acutely toxic members of the trichothecene family, inhibiting eukaryotic protein synthesis by binding to the 60S ribosomal subunit and triggering ribotoxic stress, oxidative damage, and apoptosis in exposed cells. Chronic dietary exposure has been associated with Alimentary Toxic Aleukia in humans and immunosuppression, reduced feed intake, and haematological disturbances in livestock, driving strict regulatory limits for cereals and animal feed in the EU, Codex Alimentarius, and US FDA frameworks.

This Assay Genie competitive ELISA is supplied in a microplate format and is optimised for the quantitative in vitro screening of T-2 toxin residues in beans, corn, oats, peanuts, and finished feed, supporting quality-control workflows at grain elevators, millers, pet-food producers, and contract analytical laboratories. Sample preparation involves aqueous-methanol extraction followed by dilution, allowing high-throughput analysis across diverse food and feed matrices. For long-term stability, the kit should be refrigerated and protected from light until first use, and working conjugate dilutions should be prepared immediately before each run. Intended for research use only, the assay provides a practical alternative to HPLC-MS/MS for routine monitoring of Fusarium mycotoxin contamination in the food and feed supply chain.
