As a software extension for the STEMvision live-imaging platform, this algorithm module from STEMCELL Technologies adds automated identification and counting of mouse hematopoietic colonies in methylcellulose-based cell culture. The bundle recognizes colony-forming unit (CFU) morphologies typical of murine progenitors, including CFU-GM, BFU-E, and CFU-GEMM clusters that arise from bone marrow, spleen, or peripheral blood samples plated in 6-well SmartDish plates with MethoCult medium.

Researchers use the module to eliminate manual scoring variability and to capture longitudinal growth data across the full in vitro culture window, supporting experiments in bone marrow transplantation, gene therapy safety screening, hematopoietic stem cell expansion, and murine drug development workflows. Deep-learning classification is applied to brightfield images captured through the STEMvision optical train inside a 35 mm imaging field, with results exported as count tables, morphology summaries, and annotated plate maps for downstream analysis.

The license is delivered as a one-time software key tied to a registered STEMvision instrument, enabling laboratories processing large murine cohorts to standardize colony enumeration across operators and sites. Compatible with STEMCELL Technologies consumables including SmartDish 6-well plates and standard 35 mm culture dishes, the bundle integrates with the host STEMvision software and the existing imaging schedule without interrupting active runs.
