Description

Manufactured by Assay Genie, this Cell-Based ELISA Kit is designed for the qualitative detection of Stefin A protein expression in cultured cells. Using a colorimetric method read at 450 nm, the kit employs an indirect ELISA format in which Stefin A-specific primary antibodies capture the target and HRP-conjugated secondary antibodies catalyze a colorimetric reaction upon substrate addition. The assay is described as offering exceptional sensitivity and specificity for the accurate detection of Stefin A levels in cell lysates and tissue homogenates.

Stefin A, also known as cystatin A, is an intracellular cysteine protease inhibitor encoded by the CSTA gene. It plays a role in desmosome-mediated cell-cell adhesion in the lower layers of the epidermis and has been linked to processes such as cell growth, differentiation, and apoptosis. Dysregulation of Stefin A has been associated with cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, and inflammatory conditions, making it a useful biomarker for research and therapeutic development.

The kit is intended for use with adherent cells and includes a monoclonal GAPDH antibody as an internal positive control for normalizing target absorbance values. A Crystal Violet whole-cell staining method is provided to determine cell density, allowing normalization of absorbance to cell amounts. The reported dynamic range is > 5000 cells, with storage at 4°C and a stated stability of 6 months. The molecular weight of the target protein is 11,006 Da.
