Description

An Assay Genie ELISA kit for the quantitative measurement of placental lactogen in sheep samples. Placental lactogen is a hormone produced by the placenta during pregnancy, with described roles in regulating maternal metabolism, fetal growth, and lactation. According to the manufacturer, abnormal placental lactogen levels have been associated with various reproductive disorders and complications, making the analyte a biomarker of interest for pregnancy-related research in sheep models.

The assay is configured as a Competitive ELISA (Coated with Antigen) with colorimetric detection, and is validated for serum, plasma, cell culture supernatant, cell or tissue lysate, and other liquid samples. The reported sensitivity is 4.688 ng/mL and the assay range is 7.813–500 ng/mL. Storage is at 2–8 °C when sealed, and the kit should not be cryopreserved.

Reported linearity across 1:2, 1:4 and 1:8 dilutions is 83–97%, 85–93% and 88–105% for serum (n = 10); 84–100%, 85–93% and 95–104% for EDTA plasma (n = 10); and 90–102%, 92–101% and 85–99% for heparin plasma (n = 10). Spike-and-recovery ranges are 86–102% (serum, average 95%), 86–101% (EDTA plasma, average 95%) and 85–102% (heparin plasma, average 93%). Sample absorbance is read at 450 nm following TMB substrate development. The associated UniProt identifier is P16038 and reported synonyms include Choriomammotropin, CSA, CSH1, CSH2, CSMT, Lactogen, PL and Placental lactogen. The kit has been cited in a Theriogenology study on maternal feed restriction, placental lactogen and pregnancy-associated glycoproteins in pregnant ewes (PubMed ID: 41638076).
