Description

From Assay Genie, the Serotonin ELISA Kit is a competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, coated with antigen, designed for the quantitative measurement of serotonin. The kit has a stated sensitivity of 0.938 ng/mL and a working range of 1.563-100 ng/mL, with detection by colorimetric measurement of absorbance at 450 nm using a microplate reader. It is validated for use with serum, plasma, cell culture supernatant, cell or tissue lysate, and other liquid samples, and is listed with universal reactivity.

The microplate is pre-coated with a specific antigen, and the workflow uses a biotin-labeled antibody followed by HRP-conjugated Streptavidin and TMB substrate; the signal intensity is directly proportional to analyte concentration and is read from a standard curve. Reported linearity at 1:2, 1:4, and 1:8 dilutions is 90-104%, 82-97%, and 81-99% for serum (n=10); 91-105%, 83-99%, and 80-97% for EDTA plasma (n=10); and 89-103%, 83-101%, and 87-95% for heparin plasma (n=10). Spiked recovery ranges with corresponding averages are 91-105% (97%) for serum, 86-103% (90%) for EDTA plasma, and 89-103% (97%) for heparin plasma. The kit is intended to be stored sealed at 2-8°C and should not be cryopreserved.

The kit has been cited in published research, including a study on olive leaf extract and chlorpyrifos-induced neuro- and reproductive toxicity in male albino rats (Hassan et al., Life 2022) and a study evaluating depth of anesthesia and the potential role of serotonin as a biomarker in swine undergoing hernia repair (Bruno et al., Veterinary Sciences 2025).
