Quantify rat syndecan-1 (CD138) levels with this ELISA from Assay Genie, a colorimetric immunoassay enabling research on cell-matrix adhesion, growth factor signaling, and shedding of the heparan sulfate proteoglycan ectodomain. Syndecan-1 acts as a surface marker of plasma cells and is actively shed into circulation, where soluble ectodomain concentrations serve as an indicator of epithelial damage, immune activation, and tumor burden in rat models. The kit is applied in studies of multiple myeloma biology, tissue injury responses, inflammatory disease progression, and oncology research, where measurement of the shed ectodomain supports biomarker discovery and pharmacodynamic readouts in rats.

Provided as a microplate kit running 96 assays, the procedure produces a colorimetric readout compatible with standard laboratory plate readers. The assay accommodates serum samples, plasma samples, tissue homogenates, and cell lysates, giving flexibility across in vivo and in vitro experimental designs. Components include a pre-coated plate, detection reagents, diluents, and a recombinant standard used to generate a calibration curve, and the included protocol walks users through reagent preparation, incubation, washing, and absorbance measurement. Running standards and samples in duplicate is recommended.

Each kit supports 96 assays, and the reagents remain stable when stored refrigerated. For research use only, the assay contributes to investigations of syndecan-1 shedding kinetics, the role of heparan sulfate proteoglycans in angiogenesis, and the impact of experimental treatments on cell surface proteoglycan expression across rat tissues.
