The Assay Genie Rat Synapsin I (SYN1) ELISA Kit is supplied with pre-coated microplate strips, biotinylated detection antibody, streptavidin-HRP conjugate, and lyophilized recombinant standards sufficient for one plate. Reconstituted standard curves and detection reagent should be aliquoted and stored frozen at -20°C for repeated use across multiple experiments.

The phosphoprotein Synapsin I exists as multiple splice isoforms (Ia, Ib, IIa, IIb) that are substrates for CaMKII, PKA, and MAPK at serine residues including Ser-9 and Ser-62. Researchers commonly deploy this kit to monitor phosphorylation-dependent regulation of neurotransmitter release in models of long-term potentiation, characterize presynaptic deficits in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease tissue, and investigate SYN1 mutations linked to epilepsy and autism spectrum disorders.

Total assay time runs roughly 3.5 hours at room temperature with four wash cycles between sequential incubations of sample, biotinylated detection antibody, and streptavidin-HRP. The assay was validated against rat hippocampal and cortical homogenates and also detects endogenous Synapsin I from mouse brain samples with comparable sensitivity.
