Rat Surfactant Associated Protein D (SPD) ELISA Kit

SP-D (Surfactant Protein D) is a collectin-family innate immune protein secreted by alveolar type II pneumocytes and Clara (club) cells of the pulmonary epithelium, where it contributes to surfactant homeostasis and host defense against inhaled pathogens. This Assay Genie ELISA Kit enables quantitative measurement of rat SP-D in research samples.

The assay is widely used in respiratory research, where circulating SP-D serves as a quantitative biomarker of alveolar epithelial integrity. Typical applications include monitoring lung injury in bleomycin and LPS challenge models, tracking idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis progression, studying COPD pathogenesis, and evaluating ARDS severity. Elevated SP-D in circulation reflects compromised alveolar-capillary barrier function, which is why the marker is frequently followed in inhaled toxicology studies and preclinical drug safety screening.
