Quantitative measurement of Stearoyl-CoA Desaturase (SCD) protein in rat-derived specimens is supported by this colorimetric-based ELISA kit from Assay Genie. SCD is an iron-containing endoplasmic reticulum enzyme that catalyzes the rate-limiting step in monounsaturated fatty acid biosynthesis, primarily converting stearic acid (C18:0) to oleic acid (C18:1). Altered SCD activity has been associated with obesity, insulin resistance, hepatic steatosis, type 2 diabetes, and several cancer models, making it a frequent target in metabolic disease research.

The kit is intended for research use only and supports investigations of fatty acid metabolism, adipogenesis, and diet-induced metabolic dysfunction in rat experimental systems. Compatible sample types include serum fractions, plasma preparations, and tissue homogenates prepared from liver, adipose, and skeletal muscle. The assay uses a microplate-compatible colorimetric readout, allowing direct comparison against a generated standard curve on a standard plate reader.

Each kit provides reagents sufficient for 96 assays in a single-use microplate workflow, with the format suitable for laboratories running parallel metabolic and lipid panels. The assay can be applied to studies of pharmacological, nutritional, or genetic interventions that modulate lipogenic gene expression in rodent tissues, supporting work in nutrition science, hepatology, and endocrinology research.
