Rat Solute carrier family 40 member 1 (Slc40a1) ELISA Kit

SLC40A1, also known as Ferroportin-1, is a cell membrane protein that plays a central role in iron homeostasis by facilitating the efflux of cellular iron. Dysregulation of SLC40A1 has been linked to disorders such as iron overload and anemia, making it a valuable target for research into iron metabolism and related conditions.

The protein may be involved in iron export from duodenal epithelial cells and in the transfer of iron between maternal and fetal circulation, mediating iron efflux in the presence of ferroxidases such as hephaestin and ceruloplasmin. Defects in SLC40A1 are a cause of hemochromatosis type 4 (HFE4), an autosomal dominant iron-loading disorder characterized by early iron accumulation in reticuloendothelial cells.
