For quantifying a circulating biomarker of type I collagen biosynthesis in preclinical rat studies, this in vitro Assay Genie ELISA Kit targets the C-terminal propeptide (PICP) released during type I procollagen processing. As procollagen is cleaved and incorporated into growing collagen fibrils, PICP enters circulation in stoichiometric amounts, providing a real-time readout of anabolic collagen deposition in connective tissues, bone matrix, and sites of wound repair. Investigators studying pulmonary, hepatic, or cardiac fibrosis, as well as osteoblast activity in bone healing and osteoporosis models, routinely monitor PICP to track extracellular matrix turnover in rats.

Running on a colorimetric enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay platform, the kit is supplied as a complete reagent set with pre-coated microplate, calibrators, detection antibody, and substrate solution sufficient for 96 assays per plate. Reconstituted components should be kept refrigerated between uses to preserve immunoreagent stability, and the kit is labeled for research use only.

Applications extend to pharmacodynamic evaluation of antifibrotic or anabolic agents, longitudinal surveillance of collagen accumulation in disease models, and validation of candidate biomarkers in translational research workflows. Specimen handling guidance covers rat-derived liquid matrices such as tissue culture supernatant, with collection and preparation parameters specified in the accompanying product insert.
