The Assay Genie kit targets PPAT, the cytosolic enzyme encoded by the PPAT gene (EC 2.4.2.14) with a subunit mass near 57 kDa, catalyzing the first committed step of de novo purine biosynthesis by converting 5-phosphoribosyl-1-pyrophosphate (PRPP) to 5-phosphoribosylamine. PPAT activity is rate-limiting for nucleotide production and is widely studied in the context of rapidly proliferating cells, hepatocellular models, and disorders of purine metabolism.
