Orexin, also called hypocretin, is a neuropeptide synthesized by neurons concentrated in the lateral hypothalamus, where it acts as a key regulator of wakefulness, feeding behavior, and reward pathways. This rat-targeted reagent set from Assay Genie is built for quantifying orexin peptide concentrations in specimens from rat experimental models, supporting in vitro research into sleep–wake regulation, narcolepsy mechanisms, appetite control, and stress responses. Loss of orexin signaling has been closely tied to narcolepsy with cataplexy in both human patients and rodent models, making quantitative peptide measurement a useful endpoint in neuroscience, chronobiology, and metabolic disorder studies. The kit accommodates specimens collected from rat subjects during experimental protocols, including blood-derived serum fractions, plasma preparations, and processed tissue homogenates, giving laboratories a quantitative tool for rodent models of sleep disturbance, energy balance, and neuropeptide signaling. Each pack provides the components needed to complete 96 assays in a standard microplate layout, with an absorbance-based readout compatible with routine plate-reader instrumentation.
