Built by Assay Genie, this ELISA kit quantitatively measures ornithine decarboxylase, the rate-limiting enzyme that catalyzes the decarboxylation of ornithine to putrescine, the first committed step in polyamine biosynthesis. Because polyamines are essential for cell growth, differentiation, and tumor formation, ODC1 expression is a frequent biomarker in cancer research, including colorectal, prostate, and breast cancer investigations, as well as in studies of tissue regeneration, embryonic development, and growth factor signaling. The antibody pair has been used to detect ODC1 in rat and mouse tissue lysate samples from rodent model studies, and it cross-reacts with the human ortholog as well.

The kit contains pre-coated microwell strips, biotinylated detection antibody, standards, streptavidin-HRP conjugate, and substrate reagents, providing the materials needed for up to 96 individual determinations. The colorimetric read-out is obtained on a standard microplate reader.
