Built around a competitive binding architecture, this immunoassay from Assay Genie targets obestatin, a 23-amino acid anorexigenic peptide derived from the same preprohormone as the orexigenic hormone ghrelin, with downstream signaling reported through the GPR39 receptor. Quantitative measurement of obestatin in rat specimens supports contemporary research on the ghrelin/obestatin ratio, satiety signaling, and counter-regulation of energy intake in diet-induced obesity, type 2 diabetes, and gastric-bypass rodent models. Because the circulating peptide is rapidly cleaved by proteases, standard pre-analytical practice includes collection into tubes containing protease inhibitors, immediate cooling on ice, aliquoting, and storage of frozen samples until the day of assay to preserve immunoreactivity.

The microplate-based colorimetric readout accommodates diverse rat-derived sample matrices and is supplied with reagents for 96 individual determinations. Intended for in vitro research use only, the assay supports preclinical investigations across metabolic, endocrine, hepatic, gastrointestinal, and nutritional research, where obestatin's contributions to appetite regulation, gastrointestinal motility, glucose homeostasis, and energy balance continue to be characterized in rodent disease models.
