For laboratories studying inflammation and immune activation in rat models, this colorimetric ELISA kit from Assay Genie provides quantitative measurement of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS/NOS2) across multiple sample types. iNOS is a calcium-independent isoform that catalyzes L-arginine conversion to nitric oxide, and its upregulation in macrophages, microglia, hepatocytes, and other immune-active cell types serves as a widely used biomarker of inflammatory activation in rat models of sepsis, colitis, neuroinflammation, and ischemic tissue injury.

Validated sample matrices include tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants, and blood-derived fractions such as serum or plasma specimens. Researchers commonly apply this kit to monitor iNOS induction following LPS challenge, evaluate anti-inflammatory compounds in rodent disease models, and quantify enzyme levels in peritoneal macrophages, brain homogenates, or hepatic tissue collected from experimental cohorts. The kit is also used to track temporal changes in iNOS expression across treatment groups and time points.

Reagents are provided on a 96-well microplate for ELISA quantification using an absorbance-based readout measured on a standard plate reader. Unopened components should be kept refrigerated upon arrival and protected from light until first use. The assay is configured for rat-specific NOS2 quantification, with reactivity validated specifically for rat inducible nitric oxide synthase rather than related isoforms or non-target species.
