Quantitative measurement of myostatin (MSTN, also known as GDF-8) in rat specimens is enabled by this Assay Genie ELISA kit. Myostatin is a secreted transforming growth factor-β family member that acts as a negative regulator of skeletal muscle hypertrophy, so accurate readouts support research into sarcopenia, disuse atrophy, cancer cachexia, neuromuscular disease models, and exercise-induced muscle adaptation.
Validated for a broad spectrum of rat sample matrices—including plasma, cell lysates, tissue homogenates, serum specimens, and conditioned cell culture supernatants from primary myoblasts or differentiated myotubes—the protocol fits standard in vitro and in vivo muscle physiology workflows. Each kit contains reagents sufficient for one microplate, paired with a recombinant rat myostatin standard curve for interpolating unknown concentrations.
Typical complementary readouts include western blot confirmation of MSTN protein, qPCR for MSTN transcript abundance, and immunohistochemistry of muscle cross-sections to localize atrophic versus hypertrophic signaling. Absorbance is captured on standard plate readers, and the procedure is documented for research use only.
