Perinatal myosin heavy chain, the protein product of the MYH8 gene, is a developmentally regulated skeletal-muscle motor protein transiently expressed during the late-fetal and early-postnatal window. This colorimetric quantitative immunoassay from Assay Genie is configured to measure that isoform in rat-derived liquid samples, supplying the precoated microplate, conjugate, calibrated standards, wash buffer, and detection reagents needed for 96 determinations in a single run.

MYH8 belongs to the developmental skeletal-muscle myosin program, expressed transiently alongside the embryonic MYH3 isoform before adult fast-twitch myosins (MYH1, MYH2, MYH4) take over as fibers mature. Researchers studying myogenesis, satellite-cell differentiation, cardiotoxin or barium-chloride injury time courses, neuromuscular disease models, and MYH8-associated distal arthrogryposis use isoform-resolved protein measurements to complement histological and transcript-level readouts of muscle maturation and regeneration.

The workflow follows a standard quantitative immunoassay plate format: liquid samples and standards are added to a precoated microplate well, the captured analyte is detected with a conjugated secondary reagent, and the colorimetric signal is read on a standard microplate reader. Components are supplied for research use only and should be aliquoted for single use once reconstituted to limit freeze-thaw cycling of the working standards and detection antibody. Store the kit refrigerated and protected from light at the temperature printed on the package insert, and refer to the lot-specific certificate of analysis for shelf life and component-level storage conditions.
