Built for laboratories studying innate immunity in rodent models, this Assay Genie quantitative kit measures circulating Mannose Binding Lectin (MBL) — a liver-synthesized collectin that initiates the lectin pathway of complement activation through MASP-associated serine proteases. MBL circulates as oligomeric complexes that recognize conserved carbohydrate patterns on pathogen surfaces, triggering opsonization and downstream effector responses, so accurate quantification is relevant to studies of acute-phase reactivity, susceptibility to infection, hepatic injury, and complement dysregulation in preclinical rat systems.

The kit is configured in a microplate-based format with colorimetric readout at the endpoint, and it is validated for use with diverse biological matrices, including tissue homogenates, cell lysates, and cell culture supernatant preparations, as well as serum-type and plasma-type specimens. Reagents are supplied ready-to-use or in convenient concentrated form to support reproducible standard curves, and the kit ships with a complete protocol, plate seals, and detection reagents sufficient for the indicated assay count. For stability, components should be kept refrigerated between uses and protected from repeated freeze-thaw cycles; long-term storage of working standards follows standard cold-chain practice for complement and acute-phase proteins.

Typical applications include profiling MBL concentration in infection and sepsis models, evaluating hepatic synthesis under inflammatory or toxicological challenge, monitoring complement involvement in autoimmune and transplant-rejection studies, and characterizing genetic or pharmacologically induced MBL deficiency in rats. Each lot is quality-controlled by Assay Genie for specificity to rat MBL with minimal cross-reactivity to other serum collectins, and the kit is intended for research use only.
