Lysozyme (LZM) is a cationic antimicrobial enzyme of the innate immune system that is stored in neutrophil granules and secreted by monocytes, macrophages, and Paneth cells. Quantitative measurement of circulating lysozyme in rat specimens is widely used in preclinical immunology, infection research, and studies of microbicidal activity.
