The L1-Cell Adhesion Molecule (L1CAM) is a transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin superfamily, originally characterized for its role in mediating calcium-independent homophilic adhesion between neural cells during nervous system development. Beyond its established functions in neurite outgrowth, axon guidance, fasciculation, and synaptic plasticity, L1CAM has emerged as a clinically significant biomarker in oncology, where aberrant re-expression correlates with tumor cell invasion, metastasis, and poor prognosis across colorectal, pancreatic, gastric, and ovarian carcinomas.

Offered by Assay Genie, this quantitative immunoassay enables researchers to measure endogenous rat L1CAM across a spectrum of experimental workflows, including rat models of spinal cord injury, hydrocephalus, and peripheral nerve regeneration, as well as oncology studies examining circulating tumor biomarkers. The kit is supplied as a microplate-format assay with pre-coated wells, biotinylated detection antibody, streptavidin-HRP conjugate, recombinant rat L1CAM calibrators, wash buffer, substrate, and stop solution.

Specimen compatibility spans blood-derived matrices and tissue culture supernatant, accommodating both in vivo animal studies and in vitro cell-based investigations. All kit components should be refrigerated upon receipt and allowed to equilibrate to room temperature before each run, preserving antibody binding activity across the product shelf life. The assay supports standard curve generation across a defined dynamic range, with sample dilution guidance provided in the enclosed protocol for specimens anticipated to fall outside the working range. Investigators studying L1 syndrome, X-linked hydrocephalus, or L1CAM-mediated tumor adhesion mechanisms will find this assay effective for quantifying circulating and tissue-level L1CAM in rat experimental systems.
