About Interleukin-21 and Research Applications

Interleukin-21 (IL-21) is a type I cytokine belonging to the common γ-chain receptor family, structurally related to IL-2, IL-4, IL-7, IL-9, and IL-15. It is primarily produced by activated CD4+ T helper cells, follicular helper T cells, and natural killer T cells, and signals through the IL-21 receptor paired with the shared γ-chain (CD132). In rat immunology research, IL-21 is studied for its role in driving B-cell differentiation into antibody-secreting plasma cells, enhancing CD8+ T-cell and NK-cell cytotoxicity, and supporting T-helper 17 lineage commitment.

Researchers use this Assay Genie kit to quantify endogenous IL-21 release in cell culture supernatants, evaluate inflammatory responses in blood-derived samples from disease models, and monitor cytokine shifts in tissue homogenates and cell lysates. The microplate format uses pre-coated capture antibodies, with detection achieved via a biotinylated secondary antibody and streptavidin-HRP conjugate. Each kit supports standard curve generation across serial dilutions and is supplied with sufficient reagents for 96 determinations. Recommended sample volume is 50 uL per well, with all reagents to be stored refrigerated at 4°C and protected from light to maintain activity.
