The Assay Genie Rat HSPA5 ELISA Kit quantifies Glucose-Regulated Protein 78 (GRP78), also called BiP or Binding immunoglobulin protein, in rat-derived samples. Despite the "70kDa" designation in its gene name (HSPA5), the mature GRP78 protein runs at approximately 78 kDa on SDS-PAGE and functions as the principal endoplasmic reticulum chaperone governing the unfolded protein response (UPR).

Investigators working on ER stress, ischemic injury, neurodegeneration, metabolic disease, and tumor biology use GRP78/BiP quantification to monitor proteostasis disruption. Acceptable matrices for this microplate assay include tissue homogenates from liver, brain, and pancreas, primary or cultured cell lysates, and conditioned media from stressed hepatocyte or neuronal lines.

The rat-specific capture antibody pair shows no significant cross-reactivity with mouse or human GRP78 homologs under standard running conditions. Each kit provides a pre-coated plate, biotinylated detection reagent, streptavidin-HRP conjugate, calibrated standards, and diluent sufficient for 96 individual determinations. Store sealed components refrigerated between runs, aliquot the conjugate after first thaw, and protect from light.
