This quantitative immunoassay from Assay Genie measures GP4/CD36, also known as Platelet Membrane Glycoprotein IV, in laboratory rat specimens. CD36 is a multifunctional class B scavenger receptor expressed on platelets, adipocytes, macrophages, cardiomyocytes, and capillary endothelium, where it mediates binding and internalization of oxidized low-density lipoprotein, long-chain fatty acids, collagen, and thrombospondin. Researchers investigating cardiovascular disease use this rat CD36 quantification to study foam cell formation, atherogenesis, and myocardial lipid overload, while metabolic-disease applications include work in the Zucker fatty rat, the spontaneously hypertensive rat, and high-fat-diet feeding protocols.

Additional research contexts include non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, insulin resistance models, and diabetic dyslipidemia, where shifts in liver, skeletal muscle, and adipose CD36 expression provide mechanistic insight into lipid handling. Each kit contains pre-coated microplate strips, lyophilized standards, biotinylated detection antibody, streptavidin-HRP conjugate, and substrate solution sufficient for 96 individual determinations. Unopened components should be refrigerated until first use. The procedure accepts rat heparin-treated plasma, serum, and clarified tissue homogenates, and is intended for in vitro research use only.
