AMPA receptors containing the GRIA1 (GluA1) subunit are key mediators of fast excitatory neurotransmission in the central nervous system and play well-characterized roles in long-term potentiation, synaptic plasticity, and learning. This colorimetric rat ELISA kit from Assay Genie is configured for quantitative measurement of GRIA1 protein in tissue homogenates and cell lysates, supporting neuroscience research into glutamatergic signaling, receptor trafficking, and post-translational regulation of AMPA receptor subunit expression.

The assay is supplied as a complete microplate-based kit with all reagents necessary to run standard curves and unknown samples in duplicate, with capacity for 96 individual determinations. Researchers investigating ischemia models, excitotoxicity, neurodegenerative disease, or drug responses affecting AMPA receptor subunit abundance commonly use this kit. The protocol is compatible with samples prepared from rat brain regions (hippocampus, cortex, cerebellum), primary neuronal cultures, and transfected cell lines expressing recombinant GRIA1.

Standard laboratory workflow applies: prepare standards and samples, add to pre-coated wells, incubate with detection antibody, develop with the chromogenic substrate, and read absorbance on a standard plate reader. Because GRIA1 levels change with neuronal activity, phosphorylation state (Ser845, Ser831), and subcellular localization, this ELISA complements western blot and immunohistochemistry studies by providing a quantitative readout of total subunit protein. The kit format accommodates single projects or moderate-throughput screening of multiple treatment groups.
