Glucagon is a 29-amino acid peptide hormone secreted by pancreatic alpha cells, where it serves as the principal counter-regulatory partner to insulin in glucose homeostasis. Accurate measurement of this hormone is critical for diabetes, metabolic disease, and endocrinology research. The Assay Genie kit delivers a competitive immunoassay platform built specifically for quantifying glucagon (GC) in rat-derived specimens.

This plate-based, 96-assay format enables researchers to measure glucagon levels across multiple sample matrices. Compatible specimen types include serum or plasma-derived specimens, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, and cell culture supernatants. Sample glucagon competes with conjugated glucagon for binding to the capture antibody, producing an absorbance-based readout whose intensity is inversely proportional to glucagon concentration in the specimen.

Each kit provides reagents sufficient for 96 individual determinations and is intended for in vitro research use only. Components include a pre-coated microplate, lyophilized standards, detection antibody, and substrate solution. Storage of unopened kit components is recommended at refrigerated temperatures (4°C) to preserve reagent stability through the stated shelf life, with repeated freeze-thaw cycles of standards avoided by aliquoting upon receipt.

The kit is widely applied in studies of glycemic control, pancreatic islet biology, obesity research, and metabolic disease models in rats. By offering reproducible quantification across diverse rat specimen types, it supports workflows ranging from basic islet hormone profiling to longitudinal monitoring of glucagon dynamics in disease models.
