Assay Genie's Rat Glyoxalase I (GLO1) ELISA Kit provides researchers with a quantitative tool to measure GLO1 protein levels in rat samples. Glyoxalase I is a zinc-binding cytosolic enzyme that catalyzes the first step of the methylglyoxal detoxification pathway, converting methylglyoxal—a reactive dicarbonyl byproduct of glycolysis—into S-lactoylglutathione using reduced glutathione as a cofactor.

GLO1 sits at a critical metabolic crossroads. By limiting methylglyoxal accumulation, the enzyme protects cells from advanced glycation end-product (AGE) formation, carbonyl stress, and protein, lipid, and DNA damage. Investigators studying type 2 diabetes complications, age-related neurodegeneration, cardiovascular remodeling, and tumor metabolism routinely profile GLO1 activity to link glyoxalase function to disease phenotypes.

The 96-assay microplate kit is configured for in vitro research use only and includes pre-coated wells, lyophilized rat GLO1 standards, biotinylated detection antibody, streptavidin-HRP conjugate, wash buffer, substrate solution, and stop reagent. Reconstituted reagents should be stored refrigerated at 4 degrees C; protect the substrate from light and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles of working aliquots to preserve assay performance.
