Quantitative measurement of CX3CL1 (also called fractalkine or neurotactin), the sole ligand of the CX3CR1 receptor and the only known member of the CX3C chemokine family, is supported by this immunoassay from Assay Genie. CX3CL1 is expressed as a transmembrane glycoprotein on neurons, endothelial cells, and epithelial surfaces, where it serves as an adhesion molecule for microglia, monocytes, NK cells, and select T cell subsets. Cleavage of the extracellular domain by ADAM10 and ADAM17 metalloproteinases releases a soluble chemotactic fragment that recruits CX3CR1-positive leukocytes through tissue.
