Quantitative measurement of the Farnesoid X Receptor (FXR) nuclear receptor protein in rat-derived samples is supported by this immunoassay kit from Assay Genie. FXR (gene symbol NR1H4) is a bile acid-activated transcription factor that orchestrates enterohepatic bile acid circulation, hepatic gluconeogenesis, and triglyceride metabolism, making it a focal target in studies of cholestasis, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), NASH, type 2 diabetes, and intestinal barrier function.

The kit is validated for use with rat tissue homogenates and cell lysates, enabling investigation of FXR expression in liver, intestine, kidney, and adrenal tissues from preclinical rodent models. Each kit provides reagents for 96 individual reactions distributed across a microplate, with an absorbance-based readout compatible with standard plate readers. All components are intended for research use only and are not approved for diagnostic or therapeutic procedures in humans or animals.

Typical downstream applications include compound screening using established FXR ligands such as obeticholic acid, GW4064, and fexaramine, time-course analyses following bile acid or dietary challenge, and comparative expression profiling between wild-type and NR1H4-null animals. The product is also used in studies investigating the FXR-FGF19/15 gut-liver signaling axis, the intersection of FXR signaling with LXR and TGR5 pathways, and the role of FXR in modulating hepatic inflammation and fibrogenesis. Reconstituted and working-diluted reagents should be handled according to standard immunoassay practice, and the assay procedure can be completed within a typical laboratory workday using common laboratory equipment.
