Quantify endogenous Cystatin C in rat-derived samples with this Assay Genie PharmaGenie ELISA. Cystatin C is a low-molecular-weight cysteine protease inhibitor of approximately 13 kDa that is constitutively expressed by all nucleated cells and freely filtered through the renal glomeruli, making it a sensitive biomarker of glomerular filtration rate and a useful readout for early-stage renal dysfunction, tubular injury, and progression of chronic kidney disease in preclinical rat models.

This ELISA is validated across multiple rat sample matrices, including cell culture supernatants and blood fractions from preclinical study animals, supporting pharmacology and toxicology research in areas such as diabetic nephropathy, drug-induced kidney injury, hypertension, contrast-induced nephropathy, cardiovascular remodeling, and aging-related renal decline. Researchers commonly apply this assay to complement or substitute creatinine-based measurements when greater sensitivity to subtle filtration changes is required across longitudinal study cohorts.

Each kit is supplied with a pre-coated plate and reagent components sized for 96 individual determinations. Standard microplate incubation and wash steps are compatible with most laboratory plate readers, and quantitative results are calculated from a standard curve generated using the included reference preparations. Recommended handling includes refrigerated storage between uses and aliquoting of working-strength conjugate and standard solutions to limit repeated freeze-thaw cycles, preserving antibody binding activity across the workflow. For research use only.
