The assay uses a colorimetric readout and is reactive with rat samples, including serum, plasma, cell culture supernatant, cell or tissue lysate, and other liquid samples.

Reported performance characteristics include a sensitivity of 0.188 ng/mL and a detection range of 0.313-20 ng/mL. Linearity in serum at dilutions of 1:2, 1:4, and 1:8 (n=5) is 91-98%, 85-101%, and 85-105% respectively; EDTA plasma shows 92-96%, 84-100%, and 89-99%; and heparin plasma shows 80-97%, 82-100%, and 81-94%.
