The Assay Genie Rat Collagen Type II Alpha 1 (COL2a1) ELISA Kit enables quantitative measurement of the type II collagen alpha-1 chain in research samples, supporting investigations into cartilage matrix biology, chondrogenesis, and joint disease modeling. As the dominant fibrillar collagen of hyaline cartilage and the vitreous humor, COL2a1 is a primary biochemical marker for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and heritable collagenopathies such as Stickler syndrome and spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia congenita. The capture antibody is selective for the alpha-1(II) chain, with negligible cross-reactivity to related collagen types such as types I, III, and IX. The kit provides a complete set of pre-coated plate wells, antibodies, standards, and substrate in a microplate-based format; each kit contains reagents for 96 assays and is intended for research use only in vitro applications. Reagents are supplied in vials, and recommended storage conditions and freeze-thaw limits provided in the product insert should be observed to preserve antibody binding activity. Replicate measurements can be used to monitor collagen turnover in experimental rat models of cartilage repair, meniscal injury, and inflammation-driven cartilage degradation.
