Coagulation Factor II (F2), also called prothrombin, is a vitamin K-dependent zymogen synthesized in the liver. During hemostasis it is cleaved by the prothrombinase complex into thrombin, the central enzyme that converts fibrinogen to fibrin and activates platelets. Quantifying circulating F2 levels in rodent models is a routine readout for studies of vitamin K deficiency, oral anticoagulant pharmacology, liver injury, and thrombotic disease.
This microplate-based immunoassay from Assay Genie is configured for quantitative measurement of rat prothrombin in serum samples using an in vitro protocol. The kit supports laboratory workflows that probe hepatic synthesis capacity, evaluate warfarin and related anticoagulant dosing, and characterize genetic or dietary models of coagulopathy in rats. A standard absorbance reader generates the quantitative readout, and the kit is supplied with the reagents and microplate needed to complete the procedure.
