This quantitative immunoassay from Assay Genie is designed to measure mitochondrial carnitine palmitoyltransferase 2 (CPT2) in rat-derived research samples. CPT2 is anchored in the inner mitochondrial membrane and catalyzes the transfer of long-chain acyl groups from carnitine to coenzyme A, a regulatory step governing the entry of fatty acids into mitochondrial beta-oxidation. Quantifying CPT2 abundance in rodent tissues supports studies of hepatic lipid handling, cardiac energy metabolism, and the molecular basis of inherited fatty-acid-oxidation disorders.

Reactivity is restricted to rat, and the kit is validated for tissue homogenates and cell lysates, accommodating preparations from liver, heart, skeletal muscle, and cultured cells. The assay uses an absorbance-based read-out, and each kit is supplied as a microplate with reagents sufficient for 96 determinations in a strip-well configuration. Reagents are intended for in vitro research use only and should be stored refrigerated between uses to preserve antibody binding activity.

Typical applications include metabolic disease research, mitochondrial bioenergetics, and preclinical pharmacology studies in rat models of CPT2 deficiency, where altered enzyme abundance correlates with impaired fatty-acid-oxidation capacity. Standard curve materials are included so that CPT2 levels can be quantified against the supplied calibrators, and the strip-well layout lets laboratories process partial plates without wasting reagents.
