C-peptide is a 31-amino acid polypeptide cleaved from proinsulin during endogenous insulin biosynthesis, and it is co-secreted with insulin in equimolar amounts from pancreatic beta cells. Because circulating C-peptide concentrations reflect a subject's own insulin production rather than any injected hormone, this analyte is widely applied in diabetes research, islet and beta-cell transplantation studies, and metabolic disease investigations that use rat models. The Assay Genie competitive immunoassay is configured as a microplate kit intended for quantitative measurement in serum and prepared cell culture supernatant samples, for in vitro research use only. Each well accommodates a 50 uL sample volume, and absorbance values are captured on a standard microplate reader once the substrate reaction produces color development. Reconstituted standards and detection antibody should be refrigerated at 4 °C, while unused strip wells are best stored sealed in the provided foil pouch with desiccant to preserve plate activity. Researchers commonly pair C-peptide quantification with glucose and insulin readouts to characterize disease progression and therapeutic response in rodent preclinical studies.
