The ATP1b1 protein is a regulatory subunit of the heterodimeric Na+/K+-ATPase, the integral membrane enzyme that maintains the electrochemical sodium and potassium gradient across the plasma membrane in animal cells. The mature glycosylated beta subunit runs at roughly 35 kDa on SDS-PAGE and is essential for correct folding, stability, and trafficking of the alpha catalytic subunit to the cell surface, as well as for modulating the ion affinity of the holoenzyme. ATP1b1 is the predominant beta isoform in most rat tissues, with abundant expression in brain, kidney, and cardiac tissue, and altered abundance has been investigated in studies of cardiac contractility, renal sodium handling, and neuronal excitability.

Assay Genie provides a quantitative ELISA tool for measuring ATP1b1 polypeptide abundance in rat-derived samples, including prepared tissue homogenates. The kit is configured as a 96-assay microplate format and is supplied with the reagents required to generate a standard curve and quantify native rat ATP1b1 in cleared lysates. Because the assay is intended for research use only, it supports laboratory investigations of Na+/K+-ATPase subunit biology, ion transport regulation, and tissue-specific expression profiling in rat model systems.

Typical laboratory workflows include homogenization of fresh or frozen tissue in an appropriate lysis buffer, clarification by centrifugation, and direct application of the cleared supernatant to the plate. Researchers who study membrane-bound transport proteins commonly pair this type of ELISA with western blot confirmation or with functional assays of pump activity. The absorbance-based read-out allows quantification on a standard microplate reader.
