The Assay Genie ATP2B2 ELISA kit enables quantitative measurement of plasma membrane calcium ATPase type 2 (PMCA2) in rat-derived samples. ATP2B2 belongs to the P-type ATPase family of ion pumps, actively extruding calcium ions from the cytoplasm to maintain low intracellular Ca2+ concentrations essential for proper cellular signaling. The transporter shows particularly enriched expression in cerebellar Purkinje neurons and the hair cells of the organ of Corti, tissues where rapid calcium clearance is indispensable for normal motor coordination and auditory transduction.

Intended for in vitro research use only, this kit provides the components needed to evaluate PMCA2 levels across specimen matrices including tissue homogenates, cell lysates, and cell culture supernatants. The procedure follows a quantitative immunoassay workflow with an absorbance-based readout, allowing researchers to generate standard curves and interpolate unknown sample concentrations. The packaging contains reagents pre-configured for 96 determinations per plate.

Typical applications include studies of neurological development and function, investigations of hearing loss mechanisms, research into disorders of calcium homeostasis, and pharmacological evaluations of compounds affecting calcium transport. Each kit is supplied in a box containing all required reagents, with stability supporting routine laboratory use when stored according to the package insert. The assay supports research into PMCA2's role in conditions where mutations in the ATP2B2 gene have been linked to sensorineural deafness and cerebellar ataxia in rodent model systems.
