APOA5 is a key protein that plays a crucial role in lipid metabolism, particularly in regulating plasma triglyceride levels. It is a minor apolipoprotein mainly associated with HDL and, to a lesser extent, with VLDL and chylomicrons, acting as a potent stimulator of apo-CII lipoprotein lipase (LPL) triglyceride hydrolysis while inhibiting hepatic VLDL-triglyceride production. Dysregulation of APOA5 has been linked to metabolic disorders such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease, making it a valuable biomarker for cardiovascular research.

The assay is reactive with rat samples and uses a colorimetric Sandwich ELISA detection method. Performance characteristics include a detection range of 7.8-500ng/mL and a sensitivity of 0.39ng/mL. Intra-assay precision is 4.9% (CV) and inter-assay precision is 9.1% (CV). The kit recognises natural and recombinant rat Apolipoprotein A-V and is for research use only.
