The Rat Alpha-Fodrin (SPTAN1) ELISA Kit from Assay Genie provides quantitative measurement of alpha-II spectrin, the ~240 kDa cytoskeletal scaffolding protein encoded by the SPTAN1 gene. Alpha-II spectrin organizes axonal architecture and stabilizes neuronal membranes, while its calpain-cleaved 120 kDa fragment has been investigated in apoptosis and neurodegeneration studies. The protein is also a recognized autoantigen in Sjögren's syndrome, and circulating levels of alpha-fodrin and anti-fodrin autoantibodies are studied as serological biomarkers of disease activity in autoimmune disease research.
Researchers apply this microplate-based assay in research use only workflows investigating brain injury, cytoskeletal remodeling, and immune pathology.
