A quantitative immunoassay developed for measuring the C-terminal telopeptide of type I collagen in rat-derived specimens, the Rat alpha-CTx (Alpha Crosslaps) ELISA Kit from Assay Genie targets a well-characterized biochemical marker of osteoclast-mediated bone resorption. Circulating alpha-CTx levels rise during accelerated bone turnover associated with osteoporosis, rheumatoid bone erosion, metastatic bone disease, and disuse osteopenia. In preclinical research, this analyte is widely used to monitor the skeletal effects of ovariectomy, glucocorticoid exposure, dietary calcium restriction, and pharmacological interventions such as bisphosphonates, RANKL inhibitors, and sclerostin antibodies.

Reconstituted standards and incubated samples are read on a standard microplate spectrophotometer, with results calculated against a calibrated standard curve. Each kit supports 96 individual determinations arranged in a microplate layout, and is suited to bone metabolism, endocrinology, and orthopaedic investigation workflows. The assay is intended for research use only and is validated for serum or plasma specimens collected from laboratory rats under approved animal protocols.

For optimal stability, unopened components should be refrigerated and protected from light. Reconstituted standards should be aliquoted to limit repeated freeze-thaw cycles. Researchers should refer to the lot-specific certificate of analysis included with the kit for performance characteristics and validated working ranges.
